Mangaris® Decking & Fencing (Species: Red Balau)

Red Balau decking & fencing materials are a popular choice for outdoor projects due to their unique combination of beauty, durability, and safety. Like Ipe wood, which comes from the Latin American regions, Red Balau is also a tropical hardwood that originates from Southeast Asia, and it is known for its rich reddish-brown color, tight grain patterns, and resistance to fire, rot, decay, and insect damage.

One of the most striking features of Red Balau is its deep, warm color, which ranges from a light reddish-brown to a darker, almost purplish hue. This gives it a sophisticated, upscale appearance that can enhance the aesthetic appeal of any outdoor space. This coloration is not only aesthetically pleasing but also helps to protect the wood from UV radiation and other environmental factors that can cause fading or discoloration over time.

Over time, the color of Red Balau may fade slightly, but it will still maintain its natural beauty and elegance. It can easily be refinished and restored to its original state.

In addition to its attractive appearance, Red Balau is also highly durable and resistant to damage. This makes it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like decks and patios, where it can withstand heavy foot traffic, furniture, and other elements without showing signs of wear and tear.

Class A Fire Rating

Furthermore, our Mangaris® Red Balau is Class A Fire Rated wood, which makes it an excellent choice for decks, balconies, fencing, and other outdoor structures where fire safety is a concern.

A Class A fire rating is the highest rating that can be achieved for fire resistance, and it indicates that the material is highly resistant to fire and will not easily ignite or spread flames. Mangaris® Class A rating is due to its inherent fire-resistant properties and dry-kilning processes, which make it highly resistant to combustion and slow-burning in case of a fire.

This means that Mangaris® materials are safer than many other options, such as softwood (i.e, redwood, cedar) or composite materials, which may be more prone to catching fire and spreading flames quickly. By choosing Mangaris® for your outdoor project, you can have peace of mind knowing that your deck will be highly resistant to fire and will help protect your property and loved ones in case of a fire emergency.

General Description

A hard, heavy, and very dense heartwood with interlocking grains. Moderately slight and even texture.

Mechanical Properties:
High Bending Strength
High Crushing Strength
High Resistance to Shock Loads
High Stiffness Strength
Moderate Steam Bending Classification

Working Properties

The wood is moderately difficult to work with machines as the interlocking grain and toughness has a blunting effect on tools. Owing to the high density of the timber, the cutting angle should be reduced to 20 degrees when planing. It is unsuitable for nailing or screwing, gluing results are a variable and it is rarely necessary to stain the wood. It can be polished satisfactorily.

Durability: Extremely durable. Resistant from insect attack, fungal attack, and preservation treatment.
